Site Development Progress Plans

Focus
Achieved by…
(targets from original D&R plan)
What will happen in 2012/13
Site development & maintenance of church properties
1. Work on church building.
2. Work on Community Centre
1.1 Research, planning and surveying.
1.1.1 The proposed toilet in the church has been investigated and plans drawn up for proposals in the North Transept and the Canon Thomas Corner. There is no clear consensus as to which is the preferred option. Although a grant has been awarded by the Department of Culture Media and Sport in association with the Church Buildings Council it considered that these works will take place out of synchronisation, and maybe prejudice, the other works planned for the church and therefore would be best deferred to run in parallel or after these works.
1.1.2 We believe that in advance of future plans to improve the heating in the church, it makes sense to look into restoration of the internal West Porch with a view to reducing drafts.
1.1.3 In order to minimise costs, we are looking at the viability of removing all of the side pews and retaining the central pews but adapting them to be free standing as part of then works to level the floor and install under-floor heating. This would offer savings of approx £45,000 and may go some way in obtaining the agreement of English Heritage and the Victoria Society.
1.2 Consultation on lighting, sound and visual projection.
1.2.1 We have two quotes for the audio /visual upgrade works and plan to obtain more before finalising these proposals.
1.2.2 We have seen some encouraging proposals for a lighting scheme at Norwich Cathedral using LED lighting.  We propose to investigate this as a proposal for Christ Church.
1.3 Programme
1.3.1 We propose to plan to undertake the lighting improvements, the visual/audio upgrades  and the new west  door interior porch as part of phase 1 works in 2013 - 2014
1.3.2 The remaining works to the interior of the church would follow as phase 2 works after 2014/15 due to wedding commitments and funding constraints.
2.1 Planning permission granted.
2.1.1 Planning permission for the demolition and building of a new community centre was granted by Swindon Borough Council on 29tjh June 2012
2.2 Complete ITT (Invitation to tender) and award Contracts for 2013 start.
2.2.1 Expressions of interest are to be sent out to a range of contractors and suppliers to explore outline costs and potential programme and deliverability for the works.
2.2.2 We hope to complete this process and be in a position to discuss detailed specifications, plans and cost by October 2012.
2.2.3 To facilitate this we will engage our architect Antony Feltham-King as an advisor and consultant throughout this phase
2.3 Final decision on internal layout.
2.3.1 The final decision on the internal layout for the new community centre we be made during or after the above consultation process but before any contracts are agreed.
2.4 Strategy
2.4.1 A broad strategy paper is to be presented at the next PCC meeting for discussion and acceptance outlining the above proposals.
